My Cake Update!

Hey everyone :)

Here are some of the cake orders from Jan/Feb.
I've been super busy the past few months and a lot of my cakes
were made without a photo taken, so I'm so glad I even have these photos!

Anyways, hope you like them :)

Baby shower mini cupcakes, with a baby and bumble bee theme.

Close up of the bumble bee mini cupcakes.

Mickey Mouse cake for a baby shower.

I think this is the best Mickey Mouse I've made.

A Dr. Seuss' Cat in the Hat themed cake.

That's all for now, I need to make sure there's enough time after the cake is done for photos.
Will post more photos up soon :)

Fondant Decorating: Cute Animal Cake

Hey guys!

This was a cake made for a little girl's 2nd birthday celebration.  I didn't come up with the design actually, my friend had sent me an image she found online and I made a replica of the 2 tier cake.

I cut out all the shapes first before icing and covering the cake with fondant.  It gave it some time for the 2D fondant shapes to harden.  With this kind of "cut and paste 2D shape" style, the fondant is easier to work with when it's a little hard.

Make sure you poke the dots immediately after you cut the shape, if you allow the fondant to dry a bit before dotting it, it can crack.

Rolling out the light blue fondant to cover the cake.

Inserting the dowels for support inside the cake.

The second tier is on.

Starting to 'glue' the shapes onto the cake.  (It's sunrise!)

Cutting the animals free hand.  I had recently bought myself a second exacto knife.  It made life so much easier, I should've bought two when I first started making cakes.

I had kneaded in gum trach powder into the coloured fondant, so they were drying almost three times as fast, I should've worked with one colour first, when I had all my shapes cut out with the yellow.. the pink was already too hard to work with by the time I was done with the yellow.  Next time, one colour at a time.

If there's a faster way to cut small triangles, let me know.  There has to be a faster way!

All my shapes are ready to be 'glued' onto the cake.

Don't let the shapes harden/dry too long, they had to be hard enough to use, but still soft enough to bend without cracking.  They had to be 'glued' onto the cake with a slight bend to hug the cake.

Edible black marker to draw in the details.

The cake is coming together.

All the fondant decorations are on.

The final touch, a green beaded border.  This mold is a life saver, I used to spend an hour rolling mini balls haha.

The finished product! I normally don't like copying a cake from an image,
but this cake is cute, and it did give me new ideas to cake design.

Hope you guys like it :)

Making GARFIELD & FRIENDS CUPCAKES!

Hey guys!

Here's my second TIME LAPSE cake video!

I recorded myself making GARFIELD AND FRIENDS cupcakes! I had a lot of fun doing this, I had originally wanted to make this a tutorial video so you'll see me showing the cupcake right at the lens are several occasions.

The Garfield and Friends cupcake was a lot of fun to make, he was one of my favourite comics as a kid, so glad someone ordered them!

I am getting a little better at video editing, please watch and gimme feedback if you have any, greatly appreciate it!

Fondant Decorating: FRUIT NINJA CUPCAKES!

Hey guys! This is my very first time lapse cake video! It wasn't easy working with the editing program, but I'll definitely take the time to teach myself and make more videos! :) This cupcake theme is based on the game FRUIT NINJA for ipads and smart phones!

Fondant Decorating: The Manitobah Mukluks Storyboot Cake!

Hey everyone!

I made a Manitobah Mukluks cake for their POW WOW event last month.
Fittingly held at The Bata Show Museum, the event showcased their new Fall and Winter line.  There was food, an awesome DJ, live performances, drinks, photobooth..
and of course.. CAKE!

The event was hosted by Waneek Horn-Miller, a Canadian Olympian.
It was also her birthday so they wanted to surprise her with a Manitobah
Mukluks Storyboot cake.
Here are some photos from the event:

Here's a video, more pictures and the making of the cake:

I got to the party a bit late and they had already cut the cake.
I was really hoping to be there to take pictures of her cutting it.
She went back for a second piece of cake and I asked her if she liked it,
she said it was awesome and how much she loved it,
and I told her I'm glad you do cause I MADE IT! ,
All her friends gave me a high 5 and she gave me a huge hug.
Nothing's more rewarding than seeing ppl's reaction when they see my cakes .

The best part of the day...

I had to take my mom to the doctor's that day scheduled at 3:30pm.  The cake had to be
delivered to downtown by 2:30pm so I just had my mom come with me instead of driving
back and forth. I moved out a few years ago, she knew I started making cakes, but had no
idea what I really do with these cakes I made.  She had only seen maybe.. five of my cakes at most. This was her first time seeing one of my large size custom cakes, and delivering a cake with me.  She came into the museum and asked me why did the museum ask me to make them a cake lol.  She saw the event and  museum ppl's reactions. I think my mom realized my passion for making custom cakes and  told me some very encouraging words after.

My mom was very proud of me .
